Root Cannot obtain Root

Ok so Ive Tried Z4Root, Ive tried DroidX Root, and I just tried doing it the long way with no avail. So...where to next..

I Guess I should clarify that im on a Milestone X

System Version: 3.1.39.MB809.ACG.EN.US

Model Number: Milestone X

Android Version: 2.2.1

Baseband Version: BP_C_02.06.00R

Kernel Version : 2.6.32.9-gace4441
qgd748@il93lnxdroid09 #2

Build Number: RETAIL

ERI version: 1357

OK now I will try to explain what happens when ive tried to root

Z4root....it runs through its steps but instead of restarting my device it just goes back to home screen, doesnt matter how many times i pull the battery and retry i get the same results...

DroidX Root...Ive tried using sync mode, usb mode, and pc mode, debugging is on and it will either give a fail message or it will hang on waiting for device. I also have the debug log i could send for reference.

Manual Root... when i typed in the code (./rage*.bin ) it started working but hangs up and the $ never shows back up

SO, is there any hope?

thanks in advance

Have tried SuperOneClick . It usually works :).You may as well try UniversalANDRoot.

I had Universal Androit on my Original Milestone, but my understanding is it only works on 2.1 right now??/

The SuperOneCLick doesnt have droid X listed as compatible...

Step 1. Uninstall Z4root and reboot.
Step 2. Reinstall Z4root.
Step 3. Reboot device BEFORE running Z4root.
Step 4. Open Z4root and select permanent root.
Step 5. Let it do its thing.
Step 6. It should reboot automatically. It may take several minutes to reboot.
Step 7. Check to make sure you have root.
Step 8. Report back here with results.

This is exactly what I was going to say.

Additionally, make sure you are on z4root 1.3.0 and that you give it good time to reboot. Also that you reboot BEFORE running z4 as Frag said. That should do you.

Ok guys thanks for the replies but still no joy,

I uninstalled z4root, rebooted, reinstalled, rebooted, opened the program, clicked permanent root and it done its thing and my phone went back to home screen and I waited 5 minutes or so nothing happened other than my phone being really laggy, so I rebooted and ran z4root again since I heard some people say it took 2 times to work, but it still does the same thing.

Im not intersted in changing roms, I just want to be able to adjust clock speed and voltage.

If you have anymore suggestions, im all ears.

Actually I tried it first yesterday before I realized that there was a newer version out for 2.2 system, it didn't work either, but I will try again using steps outlined above.

Ok just tried 1.1 using the exact steps above and it will get to where it says attempting to apply root, then I get a message saying " The application z4root(process com.z4mod.z4root) has stopped unexpectedy. Please try again.

For giggles I pulled the battery and tried again, only to get the same message.

Since I used Universal Androot on my old milestone, i thought Id try it as well per someone aboves suggestion and it crashes also,:( dammit lol

The carrier I have writes there own software and I cant use any custom roms, as I painfully found out last year after I loaded froyo and had no data for 2 weeks til they could reflash there software, now I have a phone with legit froyo and it seems I cant root, If VZW unlimited plans werent so ridiculously high I would switch tomorrow.

Have you tried GingerBreak 1.2? At this point it may be worth trying as you have one of the newer builds of Froyo that is similar to the current Gingerbread leaks.

Worked Perfectly in about 15 seconds, thanks a ton, Sleek2g suggested this in an earlier post but I wasnt sure about it, Im just nervous after the episode with the droid 1 lol.

Now does anyone have some suggested settings for overclocking and undervolting to help battery life a little?

Using Droid Overclock by Jrummy

thanks JB
