You cannot install that update on your phone. It's designed for phones running 1.21.405.2.

Rooting your phone does not debrand it.

    I've also tried these:

    LithiumMod1.0.12-Alternate_Dark.zip
    DeFroST_2.7.zip

So am I missing a step or just not finding the right ROMs?

    Thanks

It depends on what you want to do. If you want to run an unbranded but official ROM then you need a goldcard, not to root.
