I have a new Evo 4G running Gingerbread 2.3.3 which replaced an older Evo with 2.2. My old Evo was rooted easily with Unrevoked. My new Evo is not quite as easy. I have tried the unrevoked and get an error that my firmware is too new. I have tried to root the current phone following the directions via the Revolutionary site. However I am unable to access my HBoot screen to determine which HBoot version I have.

I have held the volume down and power button for several minutes and nothing happens until I let go of one of the buttons.

I have searched on this forum and others and have not found a solution. Does anyone know what I can to do find out the HBoot version?

    Any assistance would be appreciated.

    Thanks

you are in fastboot. you need to disable it. phone settings/applications/and uncheck fastboot. now you should be able to go to hboot. also please read the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/395962-guide-rooting-gingerbread-revolutionary.html.
