Root Can't boot into recovery mode

I have the Hero, I am using Cyanogenmod rom (6.0)....I wanted to flash the newest update (6.1), but when I try to boot into recovery mode it freezes on the black screen that just has HTC on it....my phone loads just fine, it's just with the recovery mode that it gets stuck. What can I do?
