Help can't connect my HTC Desire HD to my laptop?

I have a HTC Desire HD phone but it didn't come with a CD to download the software to my laptop. Instead I've just tried to automatically download the hardware just via connecting them both with the usb cable provided, it's installed some software but not the ADB?.
All I want to do is just download my music & photos I have on my laptop to my phone, Help please..

The SW is on the SD card that came with the phone. You can also download it from HTC. But do yourself a favour and use MyPhoneEXplorer.
