Help can't connect to adhoc network

I'm wondering if this is a known problem with Droid X and Droid 2 running 2.2. If I create an adhoc wifi network on my Macbook, I can't get the Droid to connect to it. It will say "obtaining IP address" for several seconds and then stop trying. I tested with an iPhone and it connects immediately and get a 169. address. Also (probably unrelated), if I go to Advanced in Wi-Fi settings and touch Peer-to_peer AdHoc Channel, it causes an FC of Settings.
