I'm trying to delete some photos in the auto backup folder in the gallery app. There is plenty of info on line about how to do it in previous versions of Android but in kitkat, gallery and Picasa sync aren't even listed in the apps under settings. I have un- synced G+ Photos, but that doesn't affect the ones that are already there. Please help!

    Thanks, Richard

You've gotta do it through a browser if it's not in the "Photos" app's highlights.

I went to my computer, looked into my Picasa account and deleted the relevant photos. They have also disappeared from google plus. But they're still in my gallery on my nexus 5. So I'm no further ahead.

Strange. I haven't seen that issue. Gallery might not have refreshed it's cache

They are thumbnails in all probability. Try looking under images rather than DCIM and see if they are in a thumbnail format. You should see the name or number of the image.

I had some I couldn't get rid of. Click on them and was told pics didn't exist. Happened to be snooping with ES File explorer and found them as thumbnails.

Thanks. So as the gallery app isn't listed in the apps setting, how do I refresh the cache? (I already re-booted the phone).

I finally succeeded, with help on the phone from somebody at the Google nexus help line. I had to untick several ways of syncing, then delete the data in the gallery app under settings, then we boot. That got rid of the unwanted photos.
