I have tried using visionary v14 from this link:
    19/Nov r14: VISIONary + one click root - Android @ MoDaCo

I have root and the super user app is there but even when I click perm root, it does not stick, and S=on is still on the screen with the HLoader.

I followed the instructions from the xda site at this link: Guide to permaroot, s=off AND s=on!!!!! - xda-developers to get S=off and it does not stick.

On the HBoot Screen here is what I have:
    GLACIER PVT SHIP S-ON
    HBOOT-0.86.0000
    MICROP-0429
    RADIO-26.03.02.26_M
    eMMC-boot

Also I am on Android 2.2.1 with software version 1.17.531

On some sites it has also been suggested to pull the battery; use visionary to temp/perm root again, pull the battery a second time; etc...

It seems that there are many "ways" to not only obtain perm root but s=off So which is the most accurate and best process to do this?

    I figure if I can't get S=off, I can't even try to install IcedGlacier

I read that post yesterday, while "rooting" around for an answer. The reason I did not do this is I don't have a dev environment set up yet.

I was hoping to gain perm root without a dev environment just to remove the bloatware at this point. Eventually I was going to set up dev and write a program.

I might have to go this route soon that I wanted.

Anybody else have a suggestion for doing this without the SDK???

You don't need the SDK to do it. any of the adb push commands can be done right from your phone. Just temp root with visionary and copy them over with Root Explorer, with the filesystem set to R/W.

Right - kinda brain dead yesterday morning. I will read about it again; get the files downloaded and placed on the sdcard; and give it a try.

    Update to follow later.

    YUP that did it.

    BTW, I did the "./gfree -f" command

IF I wanted to undo the "SIMUNLOCK" what would I do.

I have read the "Procedure to Revert" which is just after the optional section of Flashing the Engineering Bootloader - and I have not done this optional section so would the Revert procedure be the same?

Personally I would not think so since in the /dev/block folder the file "mmcblk0p7" does not exist OR would you leave that command off, because it does not exist (from doing the flash engineering bootloader).

I want to revert it all so I can now make an original NANDroid back up - and of course I can now load the clockworkmod.

    Thanks for the help
