Help Can't open android market (or anything to do with gmail)

I am using Samsung GalaxyS (GT-I9000) handset. When I try to open Android Market on my mobile, it asks me to sign-in with my gmail account.
But when I try to sign-in it gives me this error message: "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server."
Everything else works find. Everything that involes using gmail that messege comes up.

P.S. I'm using my wifi modem at home.

Can you get to the internet otherwise? browser etc still work?
You might check Settings/Accounts and delete the gmail account you have and then adding it back.

Apparently this is a common problem experienced due to not setting up your Google account at the initial prompt.

A factory reset is required to resolve this problem.

Make sure you backup all your contacts, photos etc.

Or you can create a gmail account on your computer and use that account instead.
