Can't play moveis on Samsung Galaxy S4.

I can't get downloaded movies to play on my new Samsung Galaxy S4:

I've downloaded several movies in several different formats. I've converted them with conversion software to mp4's (using HAndbrake). And I've used the phones convertor. I've also used several video player apps (MXplayer, BSplayer, video app on phone etc. etc.) to try to play the movies. And I've tried to download mp4's directly to the phones sd card to play them.

But I can't get a single movie to play. I usually get an error that says "can't play this video" or words to that effect.

I can get several tv shows to play. Although not all of them. The ones that play I did not convert. They just downloaded, transferred to the phones sd card and played.

What am I missing here? Is there a size limit? I must be doing something wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The only thing I can think of that can cause this is:
1) DRM
2) unsupported codec within the container
3) file corruption

I've had this problem before, never really figured it out. Have you considered purchasing movies from flixster? I'm not sure if there's an app available, should be, but it's worth looking into.

As for MP4 movies, I can only think of a corrupt file or something wrong with the file itself, but that's all I can come up with. Converting video always seems to be problematic these days.
