I'm having problems setting up my Gmail account with the HTC push email widget. I did enter my Gmail account details when I first set up the phone and they were accepted.

I'll walk you through what I do.

    1. Go to home screen with large Mail widget then click on it.

    2. Click 'Other (POP3/IMAP)'

    3. I then enter my email address and password. They are definitely correct. Then I press 'Next'.

    4. I then arrive at the 'Incoming Settings' page.

    5. I choose IMAP.

    6. My email address is already there. My username is there, albeit with 'googlemail' following it (I have tried deleting that - still didn't work).

    7. My password is already there.

    8. Under 'IMAP Server' it has 'googlemail.com'.

    9. I leave the 'Security Type' ('None') and 'Server Port' ('143')

    10. I press 'Next'.

    11. It says: 'Verifying 'Account Information'.

    12. Message comes up: 'Warning. Cannot connect to the mail server to verify your account information. Your server is not responding'.

    :thinking::thinking::thinking:

Note: I have tried changing the Security Type but to no avail.

My Gmail account is working fine on my desktop.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

I have exactly the same problem. Gmail app works fine. I wanted to give the built in mail widget a try though but just couldn't get past this.

    OK, I've done it.

IMAP was already enabled in Gmail.

On the 'Forwarding and POP/IMAP' settings page in Gmail I clicked on 'Configuration Instructions'. It then took me to a list of Mail clients and mobile devices.

I clicked on 'Android' and it gave me all the info I needed regarding the IMAP server name, etc.

    Cheers :D
