Hello to yo all, new here, and new aroud android flashing and stuff, so here is my story;
Purchased an note 9 like few days back from a persom, whom got it from anothor ecs, but importandly, the device is from at&t carrier...
When i checked the lates software version i saw something not very plesent to my eyes, lates security update is from februari 2020... now the device is on android 10 one ui 2.0, shoud be 2.5 but it isnt.
Firstly i contacted samsung members, ofcourse they told me the easyest way by smart swich, didnt get any resulsts, then i tryed the one thing i really didnt want to, because im not familiar like a said to these things but...
downloaded odin, and had, and still have no idea how to know which build number software shoud try, but i tried them all bacycally, and all of them ended with an error from odid - 0/005
"All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)"
and im stuck here, im giving you my build number and hope for some advice QP1A.190711.020.N960USQS3DTB1

if your phone says that you are up to date then you are up to date. you can't just flash any updated firmware. they are very device specific. you can find what model you have and software version in the "about device" in your phone's settings. you can then go to https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ and do a search using the model number of your phone.

yes sir i know that i cant just flash whatever i want, i get that, now my problem is not nessesearly the ui version or anything but the security updates, ive also been in that web page that you just sent me, id like to ask you, about the cariers, because im not fully understanding all those, i mean here in bugalria we have only 3 cariers and all is very diffrent i guess, so while im searching the model number i also have to be sure that i download the software from that carrier as well correct ?
And stil, i found in another web (i can sent a link) at&t carrier's software which suppose to be the latest, and still odin wasnt able to flash it..

What was wrong with the device in the first place to make you go through all of this?

This device came out in 2018, and so I have no idea if 'security updates' are even anything that are a continuing thing for a device this old.

By now, the battery is nearing the end of its useful life, among other things.

Is the device really worth going through a bunch of hassle for?

Why does it matter to you which model someone uses? If you have nothing useful to contribute to address the specific problem that they're asking about, then kindly move on.

We would need to know the full text of the error message that appears in Odin (and also if an error message appears on the phone) in order to give you tips or advice. But also, the S9s and Note 9s are known for being very picky when it comes to firmware flashing. It could be that you need to try a different USB cable or USB port on the computer

Look brother since 2018 when this device came out i want it, but because of Samsung policy which is selling the devices around the world with they own soc's but usa, i wanted it, its like dreams come almost true to me, although you are correct that perhaps im chasing ghosts, perhaps any software update isn't worth it no more, but i know that this late security update is not right, so i just want to make sure all is right

Have tried different usb ports, same thing all the time this error, which I checked in the web, actually few people with this error massage, none of which find a solution i think

Quite simply, the device is so old that there probably are no more updates available for it, and someone will forever chase a red herring trying to update a second(?) or third(?) hand device that probably only has a very limited lifespan ahead of it.

If we are starting out with an outdated device, then why waste my or anyone else's time trying to fool with it?

Anyway, just what do you think that a supposed update will do?

Typically in my experience, 'security updates' are actually nothing of the sort.
Generally it is that you have unupdated versions of Google apps that will all get updated at once.

If your device is working properly, these updates are automatic and actually rather hard to prevent.

Once a device is beyond a certain age, they stop.
This is due to planned obsolesence.

Knowing what the problem was in the beginning can often allow us skip over a bunch of wasted effort on everyone's part.

Quite possibly this device is beyond the realm of being updated any more, and it may not even have needed to be so.

Nice attitude, btw.

DON'T PANIC!!!!!!!!!
I highly doubt there's any more security updates for your device. If anything you're attitude needs an overhaul. Don't ask for help with an attitude, dude....
The attitude came from @iBowToAndroid not the op.

I think both @puppykickr and @iBowToAndroid have a point.

Yes the device is old and the looking for any new updates is most likely not necessary.

Yet learning what and why the op is having issues with Odin is a good one to follow.

Sorry op I'm out and about today so I can't research what firmware you might need. Later tonight I'll have some answers for you, unless someone here can help before then.

ok so i can't seem to your phone's firmware based off of your model number, SM-N960U that is an ATT model.

are you sure it was an ATT phone? is this phone unlocked?

also if the phone works, you can try samsung's utility software, Smart Switch, to update the phone. if it can't find an update, then you should be good to go.

Yes I'm almost sure that the phone is from AT&T, i have for the least a At&T software pre installed, and i can upload a screen shot of software info (I think i did in my previous post) but the phone is unlocked i use it with my sim which is not at&t.

Im currently on February 24 firmware so, if you need additional info about the device let me know, but pretty sure its at&t

p.p. now how im doing the whole thing, i go in my device software info, then i go in that link that i sent, find my software date, and downloading the one whos comming above\next hronologically if that makes sence, ... at least i try this way the last time, also i want to ask, just before hitting start on Odin, i add everything exept the User data section, because i all the tutorials ive watched did so, i guess i shoudnt mess with it ?

Guys i think i got something on my mind, now probably i am messing everything up, actually most likely its me, but i have a theory, now...
https://www.att.com/device-support/article/wireless/KM1278532/Samsung/SamsungN960U
here we can see all previous updates, i noticed the size of the updates is around 1-200mb right, security updates ...
so i checked my baseband version which is: N960USQS3DTB1, im not sure, what to download so i search in google next one released chronologically, which is N960USQU4DTC7 april. If all is correct to here, then i surtendly messing up while using odin.
Lets say i download april update, its around 4.6,4.7gb right, but this includes i guess everything, the whole firmware and stuff.
How i proceed when go into odin (phone is in download mode), odin recognizes it then the 4 check boxes, which are BL,AP,CP,CSC, do i load them all, or just the AP? i guess this is where i make the mistake...

你好
cmon man if that was the case would you think that i would't know https://www.att.com/device-support/article/wireless/KM1278532/Samsung/SamsungN960U
clearly , there are many many updates released for that model...

Maybe it needs an AT&T SIM and to be connected to their network? I have read about similar problems before AF, about US carrier version phones not receiving updates unless they've got the carrier's SIM in them. And I've seen it for myself, with a friend's Verizon version Motorola phone here in China.

People, im either about to do it or quit it, now quite of new things i learned that didnt knew few days back, but still few are not quite clear to me, like:
If my bootloader version is 3 can i upgrade to lets say 5,6,7,8 or must this happens gradually, step by step like from 3 to 4, then from 4 to 5 and so on...
Must the bootloader on my phone being unlocked ? Now i didnt know that they are by factory locked... so must i attempt unlocking it if its locket, before attempting any fiture flash-ing ?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...are-on-n960u1-device-with-android-10.4107287/
i read all about that post, and https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...another-region-without-at-t-sim-card.4164485/ that one (which i found, but not solution) so that one is exatly the same, only diffrence being my android version is 10 and the one of the autor is 8.1 (the factory one).
So i find out that At&T indeed dosent release their official firmware updates for some reason and T-mobile one shoud work ? At least from what i can read in the comments.... Any suggestions ?
