Help car charging

I'm new here and hoping someone can give me some insight to my problem...any time I try to charge my Incredible with a car charger, the
phone turns off. It charges it, but always kills the phone. This doesn't happen when I charge the phone via the wall charger, when using my computer's USB port, etc. It doesn't even happen when I charge it via the USB on the front of my JVC head unit in the car.
Any ideas as to what is causing this? Thanks!

P.S. Yes, I have tried the same charger in another vehicle, and yes, I have charged other phones with the same charger.

That does not mean it is the correct car charger for your phone. Have you tried another car charger?

No, I haven't, but it is the charger I bought from Verizon when I ordered it...
It does indeed charge the phone, but it cuts it off....
