My cousin has a vague memory of a cartoon she used to watch, but she can't remember its name, and it's been driving her nuts for years!

She turned 62 this month. From the vagueness of her memory, we're thinking she was very young at the time, maybe 4...or even 3. [I have clear memories, validated for their accuracy by my mother, from 3, so it's certainly a possibility.] This would put the timeframe at 1961-forward...unless they were reruns from the '50s.

All she really remembers is that the main [sole?] character was male, there's something about stripes--a prisoner's uniform?--and the 'punch line' of every episode was him getting really mad and loud, and his yelling would break the wall, making it fall apart.

I'm currently going through Wikipedia's list of 1960s cartoons, and will send her its link, but I've come up empty so far. I thought asking actual people might be better! :)

Does this at all ring a bell? Keep in mind that any part of it could be wrong, or flexible. I mean, you'll note I said the character was male, not a man, because maybe it wasn't a human. The stripes could be anything, like curtains or a tablecloth. The one thing for sure is that his angry outburst always made the wall fall apart.

Sorry I can't answer but damn this takes me back. I'm 50 and some of my fondest memories as a kid were Saturday morning cartoons. REAL cartoons. Looney Tunes, etc...

Guess what I saw in a 1967 episode of Dragnet the other day? Oh...you're going to love this...

A man, with multiple DUIs, crashes into a car after running a red light, killing the couple inside. They're referred to as 'an elderly couple.' The man says they would've died soon anyway. Their ages? 67 and 73.

    You young whippersnapper, you!

    That's okay, it's not your fault you're young. :)

I'm glad this brought back fond memories. Saturday morning cartoons were indeed something special.

Just turned 62 this month, also, but it doesn't ring a bell.
    Sorry.

Wow...that's mighty close to the idea.

The only thing that stands out is that he's not angry/mad/shouting/upset. That was a definite in my cousin's description. And a wall.

Plus, Felix the Cat?! How could she not remember him being a part of this?

    Just thinking out loud here...

Thanks, @Dannydet. Your sleuthing is greatly appreciated. :)

    We have a winner! :D

Thank you, @Dannydet! Just got off the phone with my cousin, and she was so happy to have her nagging mystery solved. She couldn't figure out, though, how she forgot Felix the Cat being the main character.

She ended up watching several other Felix and Vavoom clips, and had a great stroll down memory lane. This is from both of us!

I remembered Vavoom, because I was a big Felix fan in my early childhood!!!

So was I! But I had/have no recollection of Vavoom at all. I mean NONE!

And my cousin had no recollection of Felix even being involved in her memory snippet, let alone the main character.

    Weird how childhood memories work...

I was going to say that I was not a big fan of Felix The Cat and was going to contribute that to me being a older than you. To support that theory I went looking for Felix's time line and found this hahahahaha

Felix the Cat is widely considered the world's first animated film star. He first appeared as 'Master Tom' in an animated short titled Feline Follies, released by Paramount Studios on 9 November 1919, a full nine years before Mickey Mouse's debut in Disney's Steamboat Willie (1928).

I'm not that much older :)

Sad to admit it but somewhere along the line I have a large collection of cartoon and tv show intro mp3s :)

Silly! What's sad about that?

Have I mentioned lately that I still have AOL's sounds, like 'you've got mail!' and 'welcome!'? :D

Cool! For many years I kept a collection of .wav files. I even had a few songs.. divided into multiple parts so they could be traded.. sheesh! I was an old IRC rat after the BBS days. I lost or tossed my old snippets so long ago I can't honestly say what became of them. Hanging onto your AOL sound bytes is quite cool.

I have been watching Felix the cat on twitter recently, and I used to watch it when it was on before Scooby Doo on Sat. mornings. :)
Glad you folks pulled it out of the air.
