never had a phone that was worth buying a case for. I have a hard shell case on my iPod and it's done a good job keeping the thing from getting beaten up (despite my repeatedly dropping it).

Is one better than the other (hard case vs. rubber)?

Also, will putting a case on the phone stop you from being able to slip it into that multimedia station?

Not sure if i will be putting a case on this thing because it's a slide out qwerty device...

yeah i was wondering about that. are there cases for slide out phones that don't hinder the sliding function? there must be...

I was thinking of the zagg thing without putting the screen protector part on. anyone have any experience with zagg? do they protect the phone from being dropped (my biggest concern)?

I've "skinned" my whole iPhone with the clear Zagg invisible shield type system.

it's basically the same thing as a screen protector just a thing film that goes over the casing of the phone.

Now... if they actually Develop one for the DROID? i would be SHOCKED... because the droid is so industrial in design... i don't see them making one, and if they do? i'm not even going to TOUCH that if someone paid me,

it was a NIGHTMARE putting it on my iPhone and that was just 2 pieces, because the iPhone is one whole device.

Imagine how many pieces would be for the droid? because you can remove the battery and etc etc...

basically... i think im just going to put on a screen protector and call it a day..

because nothing on paper seems like it would be a good solution to protect it without making it annoying because it's a slide out device.

I like to put my phones in my pocket to. i hate Hip Holsters.

I'm pretty sure one of the first accessories I saw was a case with slide out keyboard functionality. Zagg/invisible shield are a great idea but they have their issues. The first issue is the installation. If you are as obsessive as I am about doing something right you will be frustrated as all get out. I have invisible shield/Zagg protectors on most all of my devices. They look good on my ipods but not so much on any phone I've had. You have to basicly be in a dust free environment wearing a hair net to get in on the devise without getting dirt in between the phone and the protector. And if you do get dirt in there you can get it out and it leaves a huge bubble. The other problem is getting it straight during the installation. The more times you have to pull it back and reapply the more opportunity's for dust/dirt to get under the protector. The next problem is the corners. I cant seem to ever get them to form to the device. If they don't form to the device they are like little dust pockets. The second problem is the screen protectors are slip resistant. Not good for a touch screen device.

Like i said They went on my ipod nano and touch with no problems but I've had my issues with every other device. Maybe they spend more time developing the products for the iPod.

from what I've read, though, you can't put the phone in the multimedia mount with a "real" case on it. i'm much too lazy to keep taking a case on and off lol

I wish someone would make a case that puts a shell around it and locks it closed for those of us that never want to use the hard keyboard. This would ensure that it's protected in the best way possible, prevent it from sliding open, and prevent accidentally opening the battery door.

for some reason I think it would be easier to find a case like that. I have yet to find any cases besides this one:

    Motorola Droid already getting accessorized

and the details on it are rather sparse :/

from what I've read Zagg won't protect against dropping, which is really what I'm concerned about

I was looking at the hard case tonight at my local VZW store (my rep pulled one from out back for me).... did not like the fact that the back piece did not have an area cut out for the speaker on the back of the phone, so I will need to seek out a different case. What a letdown from VZW.

He said one case had already been recalled because it was pressing buttons by itself, lol.

    bah....
i will be sad if I get a scratch / do something stupid to the phone before there is a worthwhile case out for me to put on it.

hopefully best buy will have something useful

I purchased a full body 3M scratchguard thingy (basically a ghost shield) for the phone on Ebay for 10 dollars. It covers all pieces on the phone

eventually i will drop the phone. it's just the way it is lol. and my fear is that the clear cases (such as Zagg) don't protect against fall damage. guess I'll just see what best buy has friday.

in the end, I don't really care about the dock. it's nice and all, but I have a clock in my room and computer with a weather widget of its own :p

more concerned with having a case that protects the phone without inhibiting its functionality (i.e. making it a pita to use the keyboard)

I had a hard plastic (w/soft rubber cover) case from Seido for my Samsung i760 (a slider) The case worked great, and did not hinder the sliding, but it seemed to make the phone all that much bigger. I would like something like that for the droid, but I don't want to ruin the thinness of the device. Might try a clear case solution.

I am getting the holster into which the phone clips, screen facing in. That and a screen protector.

Seems like they're doing a very good job of marketing accessories for the Droid. How many reviews did you see without a review of the car dock and nightstand thing? I have faith there will be a good case soon if there isn't already.

I think my solution to the "crap I broke it" is going to be buying the insurance plan for the first time in years.

When you go to Verizon they have three cases that all look to be made of rubber and snap onto the phone. There is a piece that goes around the screen and the another that snaps on to the back that allows it to slide. I picked up the black one because it comes with the option to make it into a belt clip but that portion can also be removed.

The blue and white cases only are used as cases and do not have the belt clip option.

are they just rubber silicone or is there actually a solid component to them (i.e. rubber that covers a hard plastic shell)

Rubber that covers a hard plastic shell.

When snapping it on I had an oh s*** moment cause the top piece is suppose to go on first I guess and I put the bottom one on and it snapped to the Droid and part of the phone actually came apart but I was able to snap that piece back in place after a mild heart attack.

I picked up the body glove case. It's a hard shell case with a rubber coating. It does not come with a built in screen protector so I just bought the verizon 3 pack of screen protectors separate and installed one(what a pita!). The body glove case seems durable and comes with a belt clip. It also comes with the option to remove the plastic belt clip knob if you don't use it which is nice. Lastly it doesn't make the phone too bulky for my preference.

I bought the plastic snap case - where there's a piece from both sections. It's definitely not the best thing in the world but I like it better than a leather pouch since it still allows me to slide it open.

Staff at the Verizon store I went to were not well prepared. Some were having trouble with computers and others didn't even know what accessories were avaialable for these new phones.
