Can they be flashed via 1.5 or not
Yes, just flash like they are any other ROM.
But how do I upgrade to the 1.13 ics with the 1.5 s-on
This 1.5 stuff is all new to me and my understanding is you can't flash firmware or radios, just stock deodexed roms
The firmware isn't necessary for the new ROMs. It was believed that they were needed at first, but later found to not be necessary. You might not have working 4G though.
Ok I flashed the firmware via twrp 1.1.1 and now my phone won't boot past the splash screen. When I try to run the ruu 2.17 exe to restore it, it fails. Says I do not have a current image and it will not upgrade to any ruu what so ever. I'm 1.5 s-on unlocked.
Is there a way to say it or temp brick it from this state so I can run the downgrade or am I "fxcked"
How did you flash in recovery? why did you flash in recovery? have you flashed firmware upgrades in recovery before? have you tried to boot into recovery via fastboot and reflash a rom or restore a backup?
It was named pg86img and flashes the zip like a rom then the rom itself, and I tried to restore the back up I made but it wasn't from that specific recovery, do you think if I pushed the twrp 2.1 touch recovery it would restore the image and such? The back up was made on my 1.4 rooted meanrom. 4.2
Ok I just did what I recently posted and it worked. Now what is it I do EXACTLY to get the new ics roms
You should be able to flash the rom without any firmware upgrades, the firmware is for virgin mobile and may screw you up if you flash it. Try booting into recovery via fastboot and wiping everything then flashing the rom and you should be good to go. If this does not work, you may need to wait for an official release to use Sprint's firmware as opposed to Virgin Mobile.
Also, you will never flash firmware or any zip named "PG86IMG.zip" in recovery. Those files need to be flashed in the bootloader.
tried flashing via recovery but aroma says it was succesful, my recovery says failed. then i get stuck on the splash screen again
Chad Goodman (one of the best devs out there) has found some ways to get ics to boot, here is a link to his thread that he created to help you. It will be easier for you read the instructions here

This is the one time I am glad that I stayed on HBOOT 1.5 (S-ON). 4EXT made S-OFF not all that important to me.
Well finally after a few hours of tinkering I was able to get the hboot downgrade process to work. So now I'm running 1.4 s-off meanrom-ics
I may have to set some time aside to downgrade the boot loader... I would really like to try out these ICS roms, anyone running into any issues with them?
Hi every one im coming from the admire over to 3d. i have h boot 1.50 and im running the mean rom but when i try running the new ics mean rom it starts to open the it stops and reboots. I've tried ext. 4 and super wipe. do i need to flash ruu or should i down grade the h boot? thanks
You definitely want to downgrade the hboot but only of you have experience with that kind of technique or if you can follow instructions to a T. You shouldn't have a problem as far as the downgrade process goes, jerofld (misspelled maybe) has very good advice and has thread that are very detailed. there is no such thing as fail in this forum
If you have any ? About the process and run into any issues you can always message me on here and ill give a speedy reply, I ran into every situation possible when it can to the downgrade and finally found a solution for all of them.
After running into some problems running Chad's test kernel for ICS ROM's, I finally downgraded to HBOOT 1.4 S-Off. I am now running MeanROM ICS V1.2. Everything is working with good battery life.
were is a good place to get h-boot downgrade info can some one point me in the right direction thanks.
There's a thread in this forum somewhere or google "EVO 3d 1.5 downgrade" you'll get every thread made. Use the xda tgread
I recommend this:
