Root [CDMA] Unlocked on HTC site S still on can I root ?

This should be posted in the root section, once move I am sure you will get the help you need there, and in the root section, there are many threads already posted discussing your exact question. ;)

Thanks for the help, how do I go about installing the custom recovery ? any suggestions ? :)

Yes that is correct, and it will always say S on, but if you follow all the steps posted you will be fine, the preferred rooting process would have been HBoot 1.30 or 1.40 as this way you have control of your bootloader vs HTC, but it is what it is, and you will be able to flash NP

Thank you I am sorry for posting in wrong area......

Again the S is still on, even though I have unlocked the 3D via the HTC site

Again the S is still on, even though I have unlocked the 3D via the HTC site
htc unlock does not give you s-off it just unlocks the bootloader.
now listen very careful and dont make up any steps, do exactly what i say in the order i say
1.go here :Android SDK | Android Developers
download the sdk you need, if using windows, download the zip file
2. extract/install it to the root of your hard drive(root=not in any folders)
3. go here: [GUIDE] HTC Unlock Hboot 1.50 + TWRP Recovery + Root + Flash Ur Ass Off! [9.11.11] - xda-developers
download MODIFIED TWRP recovery(note the word modified), and su2.3.6.3
4. look at your phone, settings, power make sure fastboot is unchecked
settings applications development, check usb debugging

Now,
if you did as i stated, you will have a folder in the root of your hard drive that is android-sdk
inside that folder will be a tools folder.
if you installed the program and not unzipped some of what you need will be in platform-tools and some will be in tools

if you have platform-tools and tools, copy all items in tools and put them in platform-tools

put the recovery.img in the folder where adb and fastboot are

power off the phone and this is where you need fastboot off, if you did not turn off fastboot, pull the battery

hold vol down and power

this will boot you into bootloader

connect phone to computer

open command prompt

issue a cd command to where you put sdk, i.e. cd c:\android-sdk\platofrm-tools

now issue command fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

if you get no errors you will have recovery installed

issue command fastboot reboot recovery

if you boot to a black and blue screen with twrp, you are done, if this does not happen report back

once in recovery, toggle usb storage
move su to the root of your sdcard and once moved untoggle usb storage

install su zip and you should be done.

report back with questions/errors

wake69 you rock !!! Thank you soo much !!! Can i use my favorite fresh evo root on the 3d ??? Any recommendations from an expert like you ???? Thanks again cheers buddy cheers !!!! :d:d:d:d
there is no fresh rom yet :(
but there are a bunch of great ones, clean rom is nice and i like synergy rom

dont forget to flash su and do a nandroid backup then happy flashing

also i recommend my backup or titanium back to backup apps and data, it saves time once you flash a rom. going from stock to a modified rom, you only need to wipe dalvik and cache, that said, always nandroid
