My cell phone finds the wi-fi on my cable router and shows it is available. But it continues to "search" after that and doesn't stop. I expect that uses up battery. How do I stop it from searching after it already has the wi-fi connection?.

Take a look at your Wi-Fi settings.

On my phone, this path gets me where I need to be; yours may vary, but should be similar:

    System Settings | Network & Internet | Wi-Fi | Wi-Fi preferences

Check all your settings there, including under Advanced, for anything that may trigger scanning for Wi-Fi.

Let us know if that helps!

I don't have "preferences" on my phone. There is "advanced Wi-Fi"; only thing "possible" is Notify whena open wi-fi- is available". I thought that meant when it finds it teels me and that's it. Perhaps not.I turned that off but it made no difference.

As for the router, it says it's connected to it so re-starting it shouldn't make a difference. And I don't want the hassle of re-starting the router and modem and maybe having a problem with the computer. I avoid touching things that are working.

even though it says connected it could still be the router. rebooting does nothing to your other devices. i periodically reboot my router with no issues as far as my other devices....it can't hurt and might help.
