it has something to do with Sprint...i believe. so you can't boot up at all? if not have you tried a hard reset?

Try reading through this previous posting about ChameleonProvider

Note that even though it's just a few months old a lot has happened since then. Apparently this tablet only supports 3G and with 3G cellular being phased out by all the carriers that 'might' also be a factor to your problem.

Also, Sprint is currently in the process of being taken over by T-Mobile so there's going to unavoidable problems with older Sprint (or MVNOs that contract with Sprint) devices as Sprint gets absorbed into T-Mobile's existing cellular network.

well if you can find a firmware update, you can try flashing that. if you can't find one (i did a quick search and only found the slate 8 pro), then you might be sol.

Just to confirm, there are apparently several 'Slate 8' tablets -- Swipe Slate 8, HP Slate 8 Plus, and HP Slate 8 Pro. Apparently the first two do support cellular service, so that rules out the Pro model. So do you have a Swipe or a HP model?

In any case, they're all quite dated tablets so at this point if you cannot resurrect your Slate 8 you should weigh how much time and effort you want to devote to restore it back to working condition vs. just buying something new or at least newer.
I'd recommend not flashing any ROM that doesn't specifically match your model and brand exactly. ROMs are not interchangeable, and if you haven't already received any newer OTA upgrades by now (six+ years), it's very unlikely the manufacturer has released one.
