Help change shortcut name?

I just got my first Droid phone last night, went from a BB Tour to a Droid 2. So far it seems to be pretty nice, lil getting used to but over all I'm liking it.

One thing that bugs me though is - I've downloaded Handcent (for texting) and Maildroid (for pop3 email) and have added both to my home screen. So far so good... what I can't figure out though is how in the world do I change the shortcut name? Right now they are labeled Handcent and Maildroid - I'd like to rename them to Messaging and Mail respectively.

Can someone point out what I need to do to rename these? I'm sure I'm overlooking it somewhere.

I'm not sure the stock launcher allows you to rename the icons, launcher pro does though.
