    Hi

OK so I got a new SD card today for my new tablet and I know there use to be a way to change the default app install location but I can't seem to fin it on my tablet. Some videos seem to indicate going into storage settings but I can't seem to find that on my tablet. Some also seem to indicate developer settings and other apps but not sue what all to trust as some are pimping their own apps and always makes me wonder whats in their app besides what is suppose to be there.

So how do I go about changing the app install to the SD card as my internal memory is small as I expected to get a big card so....

what tablet do you have? it should be under storage, but it may vary depending on the manufacturer and what android os it is on. you can always do a search in settings on formatting. you want to format as internal (or portable). just keep in mind that this will encrypt the sd card and you will not be able to take it out or hook it up to your computer. you also run the risk of wearing out your sd card faster....increasing your chances of corrupting the card and losing the data on it. so be aware if you go this route.

your other way is to manually move the apps to the sd card. this does not move the whole app. it only moves parts of the app to the card (mostly the apps data) and does not really free up much space.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 and cant find a storage option in settings as this is where I thought it would be but can't find the option in settings

Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets don't have that option. And in fact this feature was deprecated by Google a long time ago, as it only moved part of the app, and some apps would not work correctly from a micro-SD.

The command you are thinking of was not part of the Android UI on most devices. The way to set the default install location was to use USB debugging: the command was something like "adb shell pm set-install-location 2" (a quick web search would be recommended to check whether that is exactly right). However if your tablet does not have the option to move individual apps to SD I don't expect that will do anything at all.

Yeah probably not going to work as I saw a review of the tablet I had not seen before buying it and he was explaining all this. He even pointed out a dev setting that is suppose to do exactly what I want but even though the setting is there apparently they have disabled it elsewhere so even having it set to install on SD it doesn't actually do that.

ocnbrze had a suggestion in another thread but seems Samsung has also disabled the option to make my SD card internal even.

As users we need to start charging rent to these companies that waste our disk space with their bloutware! It's our space their wasting!

Well bear in mind that any bloatware they have installed has probably been installed to /system, which means you can't move it even if your device has those features. The best thing to do with that stuff is uninstall any updates, clear the app's storage and disable to app (so it can't update or store new data, and doesn't appear in the app drawer to annoy you).
