So after 8 months, the usb-c port is messing up..Not the cable, I have many. Not the charger, I have several..Ultimately if you apply pressure to the connector (not the cable) in an upwards fashion, it charges. lay it down free, it stops.
at least it is under warranty

Certainly sounds like it's got a bad connection. If it's under warranty, definitely get it sorted.

I have an RA now.. There is a little dent in the side, seems minor. They want a pic of all 6 sides. The guy advised that the factory may deem it abused and simply return it.. I cant see how that dent affects anything. Heck the screen is intact

the dent on the side was more than it seemed. before I even sent it off, they declared the warranty void. The phone is bent a bit on that dented side. The side with controls looks pretty straight. The opposite side has a definite bend to it, as compared to my wife's 6p...
SO, it's on my buddy who is a wizard at this stuff to replace the port. BUT, what id its more serious than that??
The kid will not get another phone out of me. This one was a replacement for the 5 he broke, and he coughed up part of the cost.
Now, it's all on him if this port is not the problem.

welp , my buddy took it apart, looked pretty easy but he is very good. Swapped out the port ($14, with tiny tools) and good to go.. I even straightened out the case....
He did such a good job, you can't even see the 'break in' marks...!
