    Hello,

I've tried searching for an answer to this question on this forum, but have not had much luck.

The question simply is this, what's the cheapest android phone I can get which allows usb tethering? wifi tethering would be an added bonus, but not a must.

    I'm in the UK.

    Thanks

I got a Samsung Galaxy Europa for €40 ($54.70). It can do wi-fi and USB tethering. I got it on 3 in Ireland but I'm pretty sure other networks in other countries have similar deals on the same phone.

Kies is the Samsung PC program to which you connect your phone to sync to Outlook or get updates. It usually comes in a CD with the phone.

Yes you need to install Android 2.2 to get tethering. Otherwise you have to root your phone to get tethering.

In that case, would I be right to assume that to use Kies, you need a Microsoft OS. I use Linux...

Not sure. AFAIK they have support for other OS, like Mac, but not sure about Linux. Although most Linux users I know dual boot with Windows for certain programs.

You can have service center guys upgrade it for you though.
