    Hello,

I'm a new Android user, having just purchased the Motorola Defy (ME 525) when in a pinch in China. I love the phone, but it unfortunately came packaged with Chinese firmware and it can't seem to download anything from the Google apps store, just the crappy Chinese Motorola store.
What can I do to change this situation? Can I install some other region's firmware, and how can I do this without screwing up the phone?

    Thanks for any suggestions.

Try visiting the Market on the web from a desk/laptop and see if you can't go thru the process of having your phone recognized for your gmail account.

You may need to go into your account settings and have Google send you an sms to validate that that's the number they can use to contact you.

After that, you may be able to push apps directly from there to your phone.
