I've nearly finished setting up my pub shed and am having problems with the cc losing connection to my TP-Link TP-WA854 range extender. Everything else works fine, but the cc loses it every 5-10 minutes.

Whilst setting it up (again) earlier I noticed that it said that as this cc wasn't designed for this country (it was bought in the US and I'm in the UK) that there might be a problem with the wireless connection

Is there anything I can do apart from try an UK one?

Do you have your TP-Link extender using the same SSID as your main wireless router or does it have it's own SSID? (as in your main router is 'network' and your extender is 'network_ext'). If both are using the same SSID try changing the extender's SSID and re-link your Chromecast to it. Possibly the signal from your main router is still barely strong enough to confuse the WiFi chip inside the Chromecast?

I tried to use Chromecast here and it keeps loosing the link to the WiFi as soon as I leave the TV alone for any length of time.

When it goes idle, it is done. Kaput! I finally gave up in disgust and wired the TV direct to the LAN.

I have mine hooked up to an extender labeled _ext and it loses signal occasionally, but no worse than the other stuff I have connected to it.

The only UK issue I know of with ChromeCast is the TV Hz, which there is a toggle in the ChromeCast app for that now.

Are you powering the ChromeCast off the TV USB port? If so, try plugging it into the wall. It will get more stable power which may be the issue. There shouldn't be any difference in Wi-Fi there vs here as it's an internationally controlled standard.

Is it a generation 1 or generation 2 chromecast?

I've got the problem with 1st & 2nd gen - all bought in the US
SSID and password are the same - I'll try changing them tomorrow
CC is powered off a 1a mains adapter - it doesn't switch off but loses the connection
My son has an UK 2nd gen - ill try that over the weekend and update

    Same here.
I'm using Netgear AC1200 model EX6150 Dual Band router which creates new 2.4 gbps and 5.0 gbps ssid's.
I've found the 5.0 gbps doesn't work as well (for any device) if you're any distance away on the other side of a wall, so I stick with the 2gpbs channel and it works find on my (generation 1) chromecast. I' think for most people the 2gbps will work better unless they stay right next to the extender or are in an environment (like an apartment maybe) where the 2.4 gpbs channels are very crowded.

So when you have an extender, there is often a choice of networks (I've got three: one 2gb for the xfinity box which is the original cable provider and a 2gb and 5gb for my extender).

I've found that I can have my phone on a different network than my chromecast, and still use cc-compatible apps (like youtube) using phone as a remote, but I can't cast the screen. When I try to cast my phone's screen it really bogs down and studders until I put everything on the same network.

    Don't you guys mean GHz?
    Gbps is speed, not frequency.

ChromeCast (Gen 1) only supports 2.4GHz, so yeah, you're going to have problems on a 5GHz network.

Gen 2 supports 5GHz, but if you are trying to use devices on both bands (many phones don't support 5GHz), they all have to be broadcasting under the same SSID.

    Yes, Ghz you're correct thanks.

I set up my cc (gen 1) on my extender 2ghz and it always stays there I'm pretty sure (since I never gave it the password for any other network). I can move my phone to any of my three networks (my provider xfinity 2ghz or my extender 2ghz or my extender 5ghz) and still use cc with compatible apps like youtube (that's a little surprising to me, but it works). I can also cast screen with my phone on these other networks, but the screen stutters. (and it makes sense there is more work to be done to cast screen when on different networks). So I use my phone on the same network as the cc (2g ext) when I want to cast screen.

    Quick update

I was cloning from my router through TP-Link homeplugs through to a TP_Link range extender. For whatever reason the extender wasn't catching the original network correctly. Up-dated firmware / software on all devices and so far so good.

Just need an app now to stream ITV live in decent quality - any suggestions? MobiTV seems full of nasties and is shite quality as well

TV catchup was always my way of doing it on my phone... that seems to have been pulled, although the website is still there.

The ITV hub might be a good fit... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=air.ITVMobilePlayer although if you're going to watch it on a chromecast you might need to do it via the website and then cast that through the web browser or mirroring your device https://recombu.com/digital/article/chromecast-android-mirroring-tips-and-tricks

(its surprising how little there is that i want to see on ITV when i'm mobile and not in front of the tv in the living room)

The only reason I want to watch ITV is because they've got some of the 6 nations games. I'll have a look at streaming from their site - never thought of that. Thanx
