I am booting in to Ubuntu now and will hopefully get this sorted. Goodbye Orange. I tried CM7 on an old Hero I picked up from ebay and liked it...
Bit of a panic when it finished and the clock said 0:00 but it was midnight! But the CID is still ORANG001 so more work to do tomorrow I think.
You can try with this: [TOOL][VIDEO] One click Radio S-OFF, SimUnlock (Easy Root & S-OFF Guide) - xda-developers, but I'm not sure if it will work with a custom ROM (or certain radios). You'd need to have a read through the thread. As an aside, if you're using a custom ROM, the CID doesn't really matter. Are you on CM7 yet, or just done the AAHK stuff?
I'd done the AAHK stuff before I went to bed. That is hellishly easy, and well done to them (donation on its way). This morning I backed up my backups (which were not, perhaps, as good as they might be at 11:45pm last night). I now have CM7.1 up and running and all my apps. I flashed the kernel at the wrong time (I didn't read the steps to the bottom and flashed it at the same time as CM!) but got lucky and the kernel is in place. Thank you for your help so far. I am still keeping a record of what I have done for future reference.
Thanks. I looked at the thread, but can't install the camera for some reason. Do I have to do it in a special way? I guess that since it is a system app I'll need to install it as root? Not sure how to do that. I'll work it out tomorrow.
Fixed in bed using Terminal, found a useful thread on this site when searching Google for installing apk as root. , Seems to work though it is dark. Not sure MBH approves. Night!
I googled "install apk as root" and this was the first hit, I adapted it for the camera: Installing .apk in system/app directory - Android Forums
An update on my progress with CM7. Battery life hugely improved, but I've had a few random crashes. Otherwise very happy. I've not looked at undervolting since the battery life is fine. Pretty happy.
I did that right away and things seemed better, but two crashes in the last 24 hours Battery life still great.
230/1152 I noticed that the governor was on "ondemandx" when I thought I had selected "brazilianwax". I have now selcted "brazilianwax". No idea if that is related. I went for brazilianwax because you suggested it. For the record, in software I have kernel version = 2.6.35.14-LorDmodUE-8.6+lord@lord-mint) )
Lower the max CPU Freq to 1075 or even 998. Your handset might be very sensitive to overclock, mine is too and will crash as soon as I go above 1075. Even at 998, your phone will fly. Try SmartassV2 as your governor too.
Weird. Thought I'd done a long reply to this that night but it's not here. Smartassv2 appears to make my battery life worse, but I have been hammering the phone. I'll stick with it for now. Also no crashes since lowering the cpu maximum.
P. S. Worked out why the governors weren't sticking. Don't think that check box is too well labelled?.
Er, not just yet. Battery life still not as good as was on original governor so I have gone back to ondemandx.
Battery appears fine again, I think that I was hammering it *and* a new app I was using was hard on the battery too. I love CM7.1 and the ability to cram more icons on to the home screen with ADW (guess you can do that on an unrooted phone, but hey! Tonight I am playing with MIUI (off thread) which seems odd. Why would I want my android to behave like iOS? BUT it does have the ability to use different proxies per wifi which is how android *should* be.
Well, I have had it 5 minutes... I hate the lack of app drawer and all the organisation that means I would need to do. In CM7 I run a very densely packed app drawer 6x6 icons, I just know where they are (I wish CM7.1 remembered the favourite ones like sense does - the only thing about sense that I miss). It seems very slick though. wikipedia says it is closed source though, which is not such a good idea in my view. But it is very clean. And like Cyanogen Flash videos (Flash 11) don't work without you making the config.data have no permissions (which takes 30 seconds if you find the app quickly). We'll see what battery life is like, I'll need to set up timeriffic and juicedefender.
Well I've now skinned it with ADW Launcher and restored from my titanium backup (though new approach not backed up and had to get them from nandroid backup). Much happier. Battery life seems OK. The acid test is does it work with the wifi at work on Monday?
WiFi at work a no go, but this was because they have instigated MAC address control Battery life is very good though. Running it under ADW seems silly though so I'm back on CM7.1
