Classified Section ideas....

As a fan and frequenter of the classifieds, it appears we should be like other sites and :

a) Put a minimum post requirement on posting and/or new threads in that section.

b) Make a picture of ACTUAL item and PRICE a requirement within 24 hours of posting.

c) Have a feedback system like on http://www.pbnation.com/feedback.php?u=315715

Just some ideas.. Thank you...

Well, there's a plugin Rob has his eye on that should hopefully meet all the needs. Unfortunately his list of stuff right now is too long for me to expect it any time soon. Certainly not before MWC - which is where he is headed in a couple days.

Example #1:

Edit: Nevermind now... LOL... The admins saw I was having too much fun with that one... :D

Spammers are free game correct??

Ironically, if it had been reported we would have taken care of it sooner ;)

I'll say no they aren't free game. The reason for this is if by chance it's not a spammer (in this case it was) then it provides a bit more work to clean up threads. Additionally, it has the potential to scare away new users :)

We talked about it briefly today during our call, but he only thing that came from it was that the curren options aren't ideal. We do want to improve, though.

Still a fair amount of spam threads, and people only coming to site to post their items for sale... You get a lot with 1 post and no pictures or price (key elements when selling used items) as to not prove any legitimacy yet want you to send 200-300 blindly their way in hopes that its a decent device, or that they even ship it...

Some of the reported spam-looking posts in the Vendor section of Classifieds remain because they're not posted all over the place, just there, and often just the one post with the link.

When Guides see obvious spam, in Classifies or anywhere else we encounter it, we remove it from the forums and place it in a special Trashcan. But questionable stuff gets left where it is and reported by us just like other members do.

It's up to the Moderators, but as they always say, it's best to keep reporting because over-reporting is a lot better than under-reporting. ;)

But you notice, most of the ones reported, have that one spam post as their only activity here...To help curve that, having a minimum limit of 50 posts to even view the classifieds would help....

Could some of them be legit vendor still?.. Perhaps, but not likely...

As long as they keep to their one thread within the Vender forum, then (for the most part) it is fine. Although, I've personally seen and deleted a few threads in that forum that were blatantly spam, so definitely report just to be sure.

As for the actual classifieds forum, I'd keep reporting those as well so that we (the moderators) can handle them accordingly. This is the best solution at the moment until Phases sets up something to combat the 1-post-and-I'm-gone posts.

I wouldn't go as far as 50 posts, but I'd say a 10-15 post range restriction should probably be implemented as well as a feedback system to keep things legit and safe for everyone involved.

Yep, "drive by" spam is still spam. Report what you suspect. It'll always be looked at.
