I have the S7 edge only because of the Note7 recalls. I didn't get the S8 because I'm hungry for the Note8. I've had the Note series beginning with the 3, then 4, 5 and 7. I'm hooked. On Verizon through our business plan, all the note phones have averaged us $299 when we're eligible for upgrades, which is every 2 years per line. So luckily the cost isn't an issue for me. I don't believe I'll ever go back to an S series phone, after having all the Note's I've had, the S7 just doesn't cut it. Too thin, very laggy and poor battery life for me.

Forbes is reporting that the release date is September 8th! One month to go!

Two weeks to announcement, two days to pre-order, and two weeks to release! WOO HOO!

OK I WILL PULL THE TRIGGER, BUT ONLY THEY WILL BUY S8 PLUS FOR 450 OR LAME ass 200 FROM CARRIER, and if put down 200, that means im out 5 or 600 IN PAYMENTS PLUS CARRIER COSTS. seems a deal breaker. i will end up paying 80 or 90 month for 23 to 36 months and no job. figure that out.i could sell my new asus gaming laptop, no its not a lame pc, but will i regret it all for a phone.

I AM NOTTTTTTTTTTT WITH A SUPER CARRIER, IM WITH A MNVO.

Well, it's a little bit of a bummer, but news is breaking that pre-orders will begin September 1st and the Note8 will be available September 15th.

Personally, I think that's a huge mistake. Samsung wants more time to advertise the phone and increase the hype... can they not do that AND take pre-orders? If the phone is announced on the 23rd, one would think that they would start taking pre-orders immediately to capitalize on that excitement. Well, that's why I'm not CEO, I guess...
    :p

On a good note (pun intended): 12 days to go!

Based on the experience of 20 million incident-free S8s in the wild, I expect the only thing that will explode are the sales figures...

Hey Chief, not to change the subject, but just curious about what you don't like about the Note 5?

It seems odd to me. The obvious reason not to start taking pre-orders when you announce would be if you weren't certain when you'd be able to start delivering in volume, but if you announce a date for delivery the same time as you announce the phone then you look silly if you miss that anyway. So why not give people the chance to pre-order on impulse from the start, and if those pre-order figures are good, slip them to the press before delivery starts to raise the hype a bit further?

All I can think is that they've experience that says that if the pre-order period is longer than X then people start to cancel orders or some other such hassle. Or they just have a rule someone came up with that pre-order periods should be a fortnight and nobody has the authority to question it.

It's very limited in storage (no microSD slot) and I am having a devil of a time with the phone hijacking calls from any Bluetooth device or the speaker and sending the call to the earpiece. No warning, nothing. Completely at random. I have reflashed the system three times, wiped the phone... nothing fixes it. Samsung's at a loss and so is Verizon. I'm trying to resist the temptation to put a bullet through this thing when I get the Note 8 set up.

In fact, if you're really bored and want to read the drama, here it is:

Wow, sorry to hear all that. I don't recall having any of those, other than the no SD card support of course, and running out of storage when I was on vacation.

Anyway, I'm convinced that after a year or so, these phones are basically sent silent updates to make them less enjoyable so people will just upgrade to a newer phone. I hate to believe that, but I rarely see or hear of anyone that has a phone more than a couple years old that still operates as it did when new.

My S7 is horrible. I've done a factory reset, but still doesn't perform the way it did when I got it new.

Anyway, back on topic, that's a bummer, I was thinking pre-orders would occur on August 24th, and was hoping they'd come out a week earlier than Sept 15, but oh well, every day, we're getting a little closer, so the wait is finally almost over!

I'm convinced that somewhere, buried deep in the Android source code, is a "perceived obsolescence" subroutine that looks for indications from the user that it's about to be replaced. If a user starts texting or writing or reading about an upcoming phone release, that subroutine starts a countdown. When it gets enough indication that there is a high likelihood of imminent replacement, the phone starts acting up and revolting. It will randomly reboot (preferably in the middle of a call). It will open and close apps on its own. It will drop wireless connections, stay on LTE data even in a connected WiFi area, and even "lose" core features like the dialer. The user will become so fed up that they will buy the next phone on release day - making more money for the manufacturer and Google.

    :p

Pre-orders start at 12:01 AM Tomorrow, August 24th!

I was sure looking for availability before September 15th... but I've lived this long with the Note 5, I can live three more weeks!
