Hi all my names Anton and I got my Droid about 3 months ago. (Love this phone BTW. My girlfriend is getting jealous.) Anyway...

My computer and phone died 3 days apart from each other. Being a man of modest means I couldn't really afford a comp and phone so the Droid is doing quite well at getting me by until I get a computer.(also moved this month so funds are tight) WA WA WA, I know sorry..

With ota froyo in limbo I'm really wanting to root. Is there a way to do this without a computer. I know you need sbrecovery but is flashing the rom the only way to get it?

I'm guessing no but it never hurts to ask. Yes I've read the root forums and how tos. I'm pretty computer savvy I just don't have one right now. :)

    Thanx to all

But all you really need to do is flash the SPRecovery SBF.

Then, just load up a Froyo ROM and you'll be rooted.

When did it get so easy? LOL I'm glad they found an exploit to put SPR on 2.1...makes life so much easier!

I wish [mbm] would make another one to flash clockwork. That would make life even easier

Wouldn't SMUpdater install SPRecovery for him? It's been too long, I forget.

smupdater doesnt do anything cause it called on sholes.info to download stuff.

dmupdater would root and install spr if he was on 2.0.1 but it doesnt do much of anything on stock 2.1

G.Armour You know you want to.

Yep, I'm honestly kinda surprised that they haven't made a way to flash a custom recovery onto stock 2.1 via DM updater or rom manager. Seems they have done just about everything else.

no one seems to be putting any effort into finding a root exploit that I know of. Since its so easy to sbf SPR onto your phone.

Cool. Thanx a lot for the info people. I guess I'm stuck on stock 2.1 for a bit. Who knows maybe I'll get lucky and ota will come out before I get around to it.

Which sparks another question, if I go to 2.2 stock before rooting will I be able to root? Or will it still be the spr method? If I'm understanding correctly spr doesn't root it allows you to load roms?

    1. AFAIK the sprecovery .sbf file will mean they will never be able to lock down root access for the Droid.

    2. It will be the SPRecovery .sbf file method. No one bothered to find a root vulnerability for 2.1 so I doubt they'll bother for 2.2.

    3. Correct.

Well you can root once you have spr on your phone. So you can keep your current setup and get root without having to load a new rom.

Go to droidmod and download that from your phone. It should work I've updated ROMs from my phone before. I don't know if this has already been answered so sorry.

dmupdater does not root 2.1. You have to be on 2.0.1 for dmupdater to work
