bought it sim free so no operator branding etc,

had the phone 3 weeks or so.

Ive read a few recent guides on here but having trouble finding out what erase size value my phone has... (ie, rastamans post here)
    http://androidforums.com/desire-all...-t-mobileuk-rooting-flashing.html#post2076719

    (from the FAQ by sUroot)

Ive gone into boot mode and found it has pvt4 but using a mac and not really up on the whole technical jargon to be able to find out the value... (20000 0r 40000)! Seems all Im reading is rooting is a piece of pi** to do, but for some reason cant get the process straight to feel confident to get started! Have downloaded the unrEVOked software and was ready to go when I realised my phone may have the newer chip, from what I can gather could I try and if it failed then just try the other root (hehe) using theAmon-RA recovery image?

If anyone has any advice to give me, would be much appreciated! Im eager to get started with custom roms and generally messing around and seeing what the phone is capable of.

Thanks in advance and appreciate any help.

    Scooby.

Hold the bus folks! Just clicked on the evo3 icon on the desktop forgetting that my phone was still plugged in, starting the rooting process! Happy to say that all worked out fine and phone is now rooted.... still seems a bit strange though, I was worrying about nothing?? Does that mean my phone isnt as "new" as I thought? weird as I bought from an official source etc...

Never mind, sure there is some explanation.

Will no doubt be back to question all about the custom ROM side of things, although Im assuming its all kinda downhill from now seeing as I got the root out the way.

*apologies sUroot for the PM, I was desperate for some advice before "accidentally" rooting and saw you were logged in!

    cheers,

    Scooby

Think I'm always logged in. If its pvt4 we still need to know the erase size because its the recovery that needs to change if its 40000.

Ah, i see. How would I go about finding that out with a mac? or is there a way using the handset?

    Cheers,

Download terminal emulator from the market.

    Open it and type:

    cat /proc/mtd

Press enter. Look for anything saying 40000

Hi, thanks for the info. I did the above and seems I have the 20000 model... all set to flash some ROMs now...

Just going to have a read over the tutorials etc just now and decide which one first... thinking gingervillain, defrost or oxygen.

    cheers again.
