I have searched the forum and tried the solutions given and to no avail can I get my computer (Windows Vista) to download the drivers for the Incredible. Every single time it asks for a CD which I obviously don't have. This is driving me crazy. Does anybody have any recommendations? The phone charges when it's connected so I know it's at least recognizing that the phones attached, it just can't download the drivers necessary.

I also have HTC Sync downloaded and it doesn't do anything, just says disconnected. Any advice!? This phones amazing and I just want to take full advantage of it!

If you just want to transfer files to your sd. Plug in your DI to your CPU via usb. Pull down the top curtain and see if there's a option to transfer files. If there is not try downloading an app called automount from the market. Open the app and enable the auto mount feature then try reconnecting the usb.

Tried both. Nothing like you said in the curtain when i pull it down, and downloaded the mount app, enabled it, and still nothing. still looks for the hardware and asks me to insert a CD. this is ridiculous:(

This is Verizon's attempt to keep its phones bug free. They think the minute users get full access to the external memory we will fill it up with junk and then ruin our phones... right...

Has anyone tried using a different MicroSD card to test for defect in the stock?

I wouldn't be so quick to "confirm" this. Mine works fine. So, on to trying to help the OP with his problem.

First: What you are looking for is the USB symbol on the far left of the notification bar. If you don't know, this is the symbol: Geeks.com[1].gif

When you drag down the notification section, there should be one under "Ongoing" with the USB symbol that says one of: "Charge Only" "HTC Sync" "Disk Drive" "Mobile Broadband Connect".

For file transfers use the Disk Drive, HTC Sync is for syncing contacts and calendar, MBC is to tether your computer to your phones internet. ( They should have descriptions under each one. )

Even if the computer does not have the driver, you should atleast see the notification and "Charge Only". Now, as for the computer not finding the driver I'm not sure if one is available yet. Windows 7 worked immediately ( and when using "Disk Drive" it should be recognized as removable storage like a thumb drive...so a generic thumb drive driver would be automatically installed by windows. )

You might wanna check for any windows updates, try searching for HTC windows drivers, keep an eye on this thread, and if all else fails...call tech support.

I hope you get it working soon.

thanks for your response! When I plug it in, the USB symbol does come up in my notification bar and I am able to choose between charge, disk drive, etc. but yeah it simply doesn't seem like my computer will even register the microsd card as mass storage. Now, when I plug in my usual usb memory key I have, i actually run into the same problem with it not finding the driver etc., however, another window pops up asking me if i want to view files, etc. which is what I'd expect my phones card to do. all my windows updates are up-to-date.

but like you said, i think i'm just going to have to call tech support sometime. pain in the butt!

if your usb memory key is doing the same thing then I would assume that there is something wrong with your usb port. Maybe just need to update the drivers for that port???

i will try this in the morning. but once you are able to copy files on the SD card. than what? you just basicly make folders for the songs, organize them and than the phone's player will take care of it from there??? what about pictures and mpg's? just load it to the SD card?

How odd. I plugged DI to my PC (Vista 32bit), the screen shows up asking what kind of setting would I want to use. I chose to use DI as USB drive, and voila! A drive designation shows up and the content inside, reading something of 6.8GB. microSD card that I inserted (freebie 2GB one) shows up under separate drive.
And no, I did not install HTC sync or anything like that. My PC just simply installed necessary drive on its own.

Do you have duplicate drive letter assign to your DI storage? to check
right click on my computer and manage > storge > disk management
look at the drive letter assign to your usb if drive letter is not assing to it you need to.

First off Vista Sucks(LOL) Now that I have that out of my system... Have you checked the device manager with the Inc plugged in or even your memory stick since it is doing the same thing? My guess is you will find an ! next to the device. If you right click on it and try updating the driver but use the web and see what happens. If that does not work... Do you remeber the last time it did work with your memory stick? If so roll the machine back to a day or two prior to that date. Your USB drivers seem to be hosed and a rollback should correct the issue.

My Dell XPS (with Vista) locks up when I try to switch the DI to disk drive mode. The graphics glitch out and the systems stops responding to anything. Switching back to charge mode doesn't reverse the problem. I have to power down when it happens.

Didn't have long to mess with it last night, so I'll have to ensure everything is up to date on there. But it was certainly shocking to run into this.

Going to try it on my Windows 7 based work computer and see what happens.

    I agree with waremaster..

Try going into device manager and uninstalling all usb entries. Reboot and let Vista reinstall the drivers. Then try again.

I also think it's a problem with your pc and not the phone.
