Help Connecting to PC.

When I insert the usb cable to my 'phone from my PC nothing happens any more?
It used to work fine before, it used to ask every time what I wanted to use it as.
Yes the option is "ask" is still checked.
I have tried doing a soft reset with no luck.
I have tired all the different options and no of them work it still charges though, even though in the top drag down bar there is no usb connected symbol.
Also I noticed passthrough and tethering are not available/greyed out

try reinstalling the htc drivers on your PC again.

It's not the PC, as it still should come up with usb symbol and ask you what you want to connect as even if you haven't installed the HTC sync driver.
I also tried unmounting the sd card still with no luck.

you tried it on another PC? or a different USB port? sorry pretty basic 101 suggestions to begin with...i presume it charges using the wall charger? so your usb port on the phone is OK...

Yeah it charges with the charger and with the usb cable connected to my PC.
I reinstalled the sync software just in case and I just did a factory reset and it is still the same.
Time to get in touch with HTC methinks.

try connecting to PC with the option to charge. and then go to settings and change it to something else like mount it as a disk drive, what do you get/happens? or even uncheck the box and remove safely. and then check it again and connect it back...

I did all that, I tried every setting, I fully discharged the battery and then the last thing I tried was the factory that didn't fix it.
Guess what? Stuck it on charge (from my PC) a minute ago, and I was surprised when it asked me to select a connection option?
I haven't got the foggiest to why it has suddenly started to work again?
As long as it stays like this I don't care why it stopped working, thanks for the help.;)

Hi all my first post here. I don't know if this helps, do you have more than one usb lead? I bought an HTC car charger and when I used the usb cable from it on my pc it would only allow me to charge. I assumed that the data pins were not connected.

It was the HTC cable that came with the 'phone, and it used to connect perfectly before it got the issue.
But touch wood it is still working fine, since it started to function properly again.:D
