Support Connection Unsuccessful to Neighbor's WEP Wifi

    I've been trying to resolve this problem for over a year.

    When I travel to the south of France (and roaming charges for internet are exorbitant, and free wifi is rare), I am able to connect to my neighbour's WiFi with my Mac, but I can't connect with my HTC Hero.

    My phone finds the network, and I enter the password (or "WEP Key" as it's called). The phone tries to connect, but after the message "obtaining IP address

    It could be that the router's security setting won't allow unauthorised devices to connect, or that it isn't able to provide an IP address to your phone due to its "pool" of free addresses all being in use. Checking these requires the assistance of the owner.

    Something that's worth trying is enabling "Airplane Mode" for a few minutes, then switching it backoff. Try to connect to the wireless AP again and it may just work.
