I am considering the Note 8 as a replacement to my outdated Acer Iconia but have a couple of questions for those who could help.

    1. How is the screen regarding scratches? My S3 has several scratches from normal life - I am gentle on my phone but, even so, have developed scratches.

    2. Writing with S pen - is it as great as I have heard? Any complications with an 8" screen?

    3. What is your biggest complaint of the Note 8?

    4. What is the best thing about your Note 8?

    5. Is this your first tablet? If not, what did tablet did this replace?

    Thanks all for your help!!!

Several tablets, from Acer A500, A100, Note 10.1 & Note 8. For extended use/holding, the Note 8 excels. My only complaint is my preference for virtual keys and buttons over physical buttons. The control keys follow screen orientation with the Note 10, not the 8. Because of that, the 8 spends a bit of time upside down.

I have a screen protector on the tablet.

No complication with the tablet, use the pen extensively.

Prefer virtual keys, no other complaint.

    Size, functionality, dependability.

I have used tablets extensively - and tend to always fix on Apple. But I've been disappointed by the screen quality on the latest iPads and picked my Note 8 up for

    1) i've had mine since a day or three after the release of it, and have no scratches on it at all. i use a moko book-style cover, and no screen protector. looks damn-near brand new. (Amazon.com: MoKo Ultra Slim Lightweight Smart-shell Stand Case for Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 inch GT - N5100 Android Tablet, BLACK (with Auto Wake/Sleep Function): Electronics)

    2) the s-pen is as great as you want it to be. if you're a constant note-taker (i am) it's amazing. if you don't tend to jot things, it's definitely not something that i'd invest in, as it adds quite a bit of expense for something that's used only rarely. check the price of the tab 3 8" as a conparison - they're very similar except the pen.

    3) biggest complaint, by far, is the limited number of multi-window compatible apps. second is the sound when watching movies with no headphones. the speakers are both on the same side of the device when held in landscape mode.

    4) best thing is the size, at least for me. my tab 10.1 is slightly too large for portability, at that size i'd rather use a laptop. my wife's nexus 7 is just a little too small for my tastes, so the 8" is just right.

    5) tab 10, nexus 7, kindle fire, ipad mini. i've been around the block. the note 8 is my favorite one. the keyboard is almost perfect, android is far more open than iOS, it's not locked into amazon or itunes, the size - as previously stated - is just right for me. don't get me wrong, i like all of them, i repurposed the 10" into a nice cookbook, the kindle was passed on to children, and the ipad is technically for work. but the note 8 is my go-to if i'm traveling or reading or anything.

My Note 8.0 replaced the original Nexus 7, and other than the regular software update of a Nexus device, this was an upgrade in every conceivable way.

Haven't noticed any major blemishes on the screen. I've had mine about 6 months, never had a screen protector on it, and I'm not exactly gentle with my devices.

The S pen is great and very versatile, but if I had it to do over again, that probably wouldn't be as big of a deal as it was at the time.

Overall, it's a great tablet, and I'm very happy with it. Hope this helps.
