Hi guys, I've been searching all over for the answer, but can't find it.

My contact pictures look like crap on the people app, especially when their info comes up or when I get a call.

Does anyone know what kind of pics will work on this? How can I make photos be the right resolution?

    TIA.

Unfortunately, I have no answers, but have been noticing the same thing.

Perhaps the contact photos were taken at a very low resolution, and the higher resolution renders them blurry?

IDK, but, I agree... they all look bad.

The gmail contact photos are very low res (like 250x250) so they stretch poorly. They will need to update this.

My solution: make a picasa album of profile pics you want to use and manually correct them (at least for your favorites) until a better method comes along.

PS - I am still having syncing issues with facebook and google contacts not mixing super nice... a lot of blank faces :(

I had the same issue with my DInc contact pics. So I went in and re-did some of the contact pics from full pictures on my phone and they look better. Would it have something to do with the resolution of the screen and how they were cropped for a lesser res screen?

How are you even getting facebook to attempt to sync? I can't figure out how.

Yeah, this is a major pain right now. The biggest issue is that Google Contacts (on the web) does not use HD photos. So when you first sync your phone with your Google account, all of your contact photos will look like crap. You basically have to get the higher res photo on your phone and then edit the contact, I guess.... though since the HD photo doesn't actually save to Google, this would only save as long as it's on your phone, right? If you ever have to wipe and re-sync with Google (or get a different phone), they would all revert back to low res, wouldn't they?

It's a shame because the Contact photos are really utilized well in ICS, but it's almost embarrassing looking at them in such low res. You'd think Google would have updated it's Contacts to allow for higher res photos when they released ICS.

    Yup, this. Very true.

Exactly. It is a pain, but I did this last night and it makes all the difference. Just go into each contact and manually set the pic from your Gallery app. Such a nice new People app, with crazy low res picture imports is not optimal at all.

i thought during the presentation it said they take people's google + pictures, and those come out reaaaalllly clear. any other pictures would be blurry. maybe its a way to push google + on people...

Is there any way to re-size the picture? That would solve two issues: one, crappy pictures and two, the fact that I don't want a 4.5" face filling up my screen when a call comes in.

man, this phone seems not well thought out...

It works fine if you take a new pic on your nexus but any imported pics from google will be distorted for now

I actually solicited my google+ contacts (well, just family and friends) to update their profile pic (the default profile pic is whatever low-res pic they used back when google chat was introduced) to high res a few weeks ago in anticipation of this. Surprisingly, most of them actually listened to me. Suckers!

Manually adding high res pics sounds like the easiest thing to do, though I thought my method was kinda hilarious.

Has anyone tried using "SyncMyPix" to import Facebook profile pics? Curious if that syncs at a better resolution.

That sucks. I figured it would since the pic you see while they're downloading are full size. Hopefully they'll update soon for ICS.

I’ve only done one contact photo from scratch and it came out excellent. Several apparently imported automatically from Facebook and look OK.
I created a Hi-Rez photo of my wife with Photoshop, of course I used Perfect365 to add some glamor. It’s purely a tight “head shot” about 2372x2853 pixels and about 820KB. This gives a nice detailed photo. I used the USB connection to create a “Contact Photos” folder under “Pictures” on the SGN. Then it’s just a matter of importing the photo into the “People” app, which cropped it a little more before it pulled it in. My wife is so happy with the results she asked me to send the original to all our family and friends to use as their contact photo of her.:D
Also should add the Hi-Rez photo was a JPG and the large photo I copied to the SGN was subsequently deleted, leaving just the thumbnail the SGN created.

Just go to their facebook profile, find a picture, press menu -> set as -> contact photo. Looks a million times better.

How do you use Picasa photos as a contact photo on the phone? I created a web album of some photos I want to use, and they show up in the Google+ app on the phone. But I don't know how to assign one of those photos to a contact? If I click on Edit and try to use another photo in the contact, it only lets me use photos from the Gallery (which doesn't have the Picasa photos).

    Thanks for any help.

Does everyone have pixelated contact pictures? I mean, they look fine in the sms app and in my contact book, but when making/receiving calls and the pic takes up alot of the screen, its pretty bad. Is this on the list of hopeful improvements to come?

This is because the pictures you put there are low resolution. Put higher resolution pictures in there if you want it to not be pixelated when they are blown up.

I have the same problem and expect that the reason is that contacts are synced w/ Google Contacts and in the process converted to a lower resolution. If you re-apply a photo on your phone you'll get hi resolution on the phone, but a low res version is still stored in Google Contacts.
