I have a Galaxy S3 and appear to have lost all my contacts.
Seemed to occur after I discovered my granddaughter playing with it the other day (bad Grandpa).
Anyway, if I press 'Contacts' in the phone panel, I get a message 'Contact List is being updated', which doesn't go away.
I should have had them synched to Google account, but I didn

You could try getting a different sync tool from the Play Store - e.g. AndroidSync - however I suspect they're probably going to have the same issues.

My guess is that you're going to end up having to back up then do a factory reset of the phone, I'm afraid.

    Thanks for the reply.
Not what I wanted to hear, but I guess what I was expecting.

Hi Bob, have you tried simply restarting the phone? It sounds like the update process has hung up. A reboot might get you to where Kies will see it again.

Thanks for your comment. Yes, I did try that but to no avail.
When I back up to my PC, everything seems to backup except the Contacts folder, which gets marked with an "!".
    I guess I'll try a reset tonight.

There is another option, if you desperately need your contacts. You can sync your contacts from Outlook to your Gmail account. You will find several Outlook sync clients/plug-ins on the net; the one I am using for years now is gSyncit which, although not free, does a perfect job for syncing Outlook Contacts, /calendar, Notes and Tasks. I never worry about such things as 'loosing personal information' as everything is synced with my Google account to Google servers.

P.S. Just make sure you have enabled syncing of Contacts etc. in Settings > Accounts > Google Account after sync of Outlook data to Google.

    Thanks Heat57.
I've already reset it, and restored my backups (all except Contacts).
I've downloaded contacts from Outlook, using Kies, but the result is a bit messy.
I'll have a look at your recommended software.

BTW - it's only a one off cost, but after that all updates are free. I've never looked back and can highly recommend it having tried around half a dozen similar plug-ins for Outlook.
