    Hey, buddy of mine needs to figure this out. Please help.

    he has an Evo, when he got it I guess he put his contacts on it manually before ever adding gmail account. Now those contacts are designated as "phone" contacts. How can we make them sync to his gmail???

    I too have had this issue, I still have not found a way to sync my phone contacts up to the gmail clouds. I did link all my phone number contacts to my google contacts so in my phone, I only see one name, all of their individual contacts are linked together. I think I'm going to start putting all my phone numbers into my google contacts so I'll really only have one contact, the google one, then I can unlink the phone contact and delete it, and it will sync with the coulds...

    I too had this same problem. I made the mistake designating all my new contacts as 'phone'. I had to export my contacts and then import them into gmail. No easy way around it.

    Try this:

    People -> Menu -> Import/Export -> Phone
    then
    People -> Menu -> Import/Export -> Import from SD card -> Google

    I've had the same problem. I've tried what blkhwkz said, and it worked fine.
