Help contacts problem

ive done a search but cant seem to find anything relative to my problem For some reason random contacts in my phone have up to 16 duplicates all the sudden. It wont let me delete the extras either. How can i straighten this mess out?

my contact list is acting up too. it is taking FOREVER to load. It looked like it had last night, but like otterbob it listed each person several times.

I got to a screen that showed me which contacts to show (FB, Google, Phone, ALL, etc) and FB showed over 28,000 contacts. Could this be the hang up? and how can I fix it.
