Contacts taking up too much space - can I just clear my FB?

Contacts taking up too much space
I've read in a few other threads that the culprit is FB

If I remove FB settings, will this solve the problem?
No one seems to have given this as a solution

I say 'remove settings' and not uninstall - I don't use - but I can't uninstall from my HTC Desire

Remove your account from the phone, then relogin, but this time, dont sync FB contacts.

i removed the account
i haven't logged back into FB - i don't need to - i don't use it!
my contacts is still 12mb
what am i doing wrong?

12mb is pretty small. Do you have contact pictures? more data than just numbers?

pictures for about 2 or 3 contacts
that's all!
i take it my problem is not FB then?

that still leave me with the questions: why is contacts taking up sooo much spacE?

I almost forgot, have you cleared FB data before removing your account?

thats all i did - clear the data
i thought that was the same thing as removing the account?
if i want to login again, i have to give username and password

to remove the account, go to menu>settings>accounts and sync>your fb account>remove.

fb account is not there
however... i did find out that in total i have 4000+ contacts in gmail
is that the cause of the storage space??

4000? that might be it. That many contacts could surely use up 12mb. im surprised it didnt use more,.
