Help Continuous data usage

Hi, it is a great forum you have here! Thank you for all the help so far!!!

I got my first android (milestone) phone 4 days ago. For some reason it seems to download data whenever it feels like it. I disconnected the auto sync and the background sync options, and still it downloads 20-30mgb/day... I do check my email via manual refreshing but I cannot see this being 20-30mb. Additionally, it looks like the data downloading happens when the phone is in a standby mode...I currently have no apps on the hpone except for the barcode reader

Any ideas how to find which software uses up the data? I only have 500mb/month and cannot afford losing 20mb/day on nothing..
