Convert DiVX/DVD to native Desire HD format.

Has anyone found a decent, all-in-one solution for converting any video format or disc to play fullscreen on the Desire HD?

Failing that, does anyone know the exact specs for ideal playback on the device? I seem to recall it's H.264 compatible for a start but what screen resolution is ideal and what audio encoder/bitrate is best?

I know you can get DivX players from the store but I'd rather have all my files clean and in perfect sync (audio/video) if you catch my drift.

Cheers for any help.

Already got it thanks but the point is that none of these third-party players support the Dolby/SRS switch..........yet.

What I have found out is that all MP4 files work very well. That's all up to 720p. I haven't tried anything higher yet. There should be a limit and I guess that would depend on the bitrate of the file rather than the resolution.
I have tried to run flv or avi files with Rock player or other downloaded players but they do not use hardware decoding for these formats and, as you mentioned, the sound and video is rarely in sync.
For conversion just use any MP4 conversion software and even at 720 you will be fine + the native player will crop the 720 video to fit full screen and that is just gorgeours + you get dolby or SRS and that is also nice :)

I have the perfect program. Avidemux 2.5

Avidemux - Main Page

Simply drag any video in. On the left you can choose what video and audio codec to use. I believe mpeg4(divx) for video, and mp3 for audio work on the DHD. Then simply choose what container you want to save it as. I believe mp4 works with the DHD.

After you choose what you want, click save.. and the important part is to write .mp4 at the end of your filename when saving!

Really brilliant software. Works with every format, even MKV.
