I am most interested in TextSecure, but I will certainly try both! Very cool stuff:

Whisper Systems

Thoughts?

Care to elaborate on what they do and why you like them?

This is just a guess, but im guessing that they encrypt outgoing voice calls and sms message's lol

at least thats what their website says on like every page.. Did you even click the link?

If someone wants to take the time and find a way to break in and listen to one of my conversations...so be it. :D I don't think I have ever had a conversation that I cared if anyone else was listening on the other line.

Yes I did but it looked very poorly made so I didn't bother scrolling down;)

If I'm not mistaken, if you enable the "Voice Privacy" option in the settings, it will encrypt voice calls anyways.

LOL... Ya'll are pretty backwards. This thing is pretty slick. The SMS encryption is based off of OTR, so it's pretty damn secure.

How does it look "poorly made"? LOL...

Most interested in that as opposed to the voice part.

I quite a nice simple looking site from a designers view tbh, in fact if you look at the code, he even dotted his i's and crossed his t's

:)

how exactly would somebody listen in on calls or hack into your texts?

And additionally...

This app is not just for US users. Think about all the people in countries where citizen surveillance is pervasive and acknowledged, such as Iran or China.

Use your noodle. :)

How exactly would someone steal your car that is locked?

Scanners work great listening to calls. It's radio frequencies that they travel on. If you have a scanner that can pick up those bands, you're in.

Police, government, and military have this capability, and they are readily available in a number of places.

Texts idk, but I am sure there is something out there that can intercept them.

Absolutely right. If civilian tech companies can intercept and decrypt Predator drone camera feeds (which did happen last year), then there's absolutely no reason to assume that civilian cellular is safe.

lol you nerds are funny.

I doubt any of you here have any sort of conversations that anyone would care to hear about or that are soooo important you would feel the need to protect with this app.

Yea the Government & Cell Companies are just sitting back listening to you talk about Sci Fi Conventions and girls boobs.

yup.

alrighty. i have been proven wrong. i have nothing to hide though.

I'm truly shocked when anyone says this...

You may not have done anything wrong, but you have a right to privacy in the US. It's authority granted to you by some very, very old laws. And you know what they say about authority? Use it or lose it.

Any encryption is good encryption.
