Copy files via USB direct to MP3 player

Ok, here's a head scratcher.
Situation: I use an iRiver S10 MP3 player (2GB) when riding. Normally if Im going on a long ride (a few days) I will need to take my notebook along if I want to change songs on the player.
So, what Im trying to work out is this. Is there a way to transfer MP3s from my Desire's SD card to the S10 via USB (maybe using a USB Data Transfer cable and the required adaptors?).
Any ideas/suggestions? Could it be possible?

In short, no. Your river would need to be able to detect external usb storage and I doubt it can, but try googling it to be sure. However of it can detect a usb stick for example I still doubt it would detect the SD card.
