I've been trying to read as much stuff on all the blogs about Verizon's new offerings and couldn't figure out why they were announcing phones that won't be released for 2-4 months, especially when some like the Thunderbolt we've known about for almost half a year. Does anyone else think that these devices release date has been intentionally delayed so that if the iphone is released it will be done at the end of this week or beginning of February and that Verizon won't cannibalize it's own sales? Not trolling, just posting my thoughts, as dissapointed as I am that I have to wait months to get a new phone.

I think it is more that they are not ready to be released... Releasing a new network has a lot of inner workings to it; you also dont want to release something your claiming is the future with a bunch of problems and immediately turn people off to it.

I do think that the closer they are released to iphone tho the worst verizon android phones will do sales wise..

I am thinking release date around Jan 23rd. This puts it past the Jan 16th date for the new policy on new every 2 year contract. Apple phone over 2 weeks later where nobody can return the Thunderbolt. Verizon might be using the Thunderbolt to get a better deal with Apple but who really knows. My kids are waiting on the iphone but I am a big fan of HTC.

NKT, do you think we will see anymore HTC 3g phones with good specs, or have we officially turned the corner and can expect only 4g phones from here on out for verizon?

That is a great question. I would like to upgrade to the Thunderbolt but if the 4G plans are too pricey then I'm staying in 3G land. It would be nice that the 3G phones still get some love for those who can't afford the 4G service.

If I'm not mistaken 4g phones will be perfectly capable of working with only 3g because you need the sim card for LTE and that is how they can separate pricing as to keep everyone with newer handsets that are capable of using the new network if such a time comes when they can afford to do so

The Bionic may not be ready an maybe the Samsung as well, but the ThunderBolt sure as heck should be. It was outed six months ago, got a new radio that is backwards compatible to 3G.

But as the WallStreet Journal says (you know Steve Job's mouth piece when he wants things leaked HIS way) that on 1/11/11 Verizon has a special announcement. We all know how Job's refuses to attend CES and he will get the tech journalists to sweep away everything they just did for his phone announcement. Seriously the iPhone has been out for years, so its going to a new carrier, BFD. Its a phone, not a cure for world problems.

That said as the original poster commented, YES, I agree whole heartedly and so doe many other tech blogs, journalists and outlets that Verizon is holding off on other new phone launches either because they don't want to over shadow them or as typical Apple (Job's) demands such policies be set, conformed and tortured into place through whatever means necessary.

Some call it "business" I call it "draconian" policies. If you cannot win on the merit of your own product then it clearly is nothing to crow about. The fact that Apple has and continues to get beat up by Android OS is enough for Job's to demand such policies.

Apple counts iOS devices, meaning iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad. Google counts Android Phones and until the Samsung Galaxy Tab it was only phones. With the addition of monster Android Tablets, Hot new 4G Android phones Apple is once again scared and will make "business (aka draconian) demands on their carriers.

Even AT&T is scared offering the iPwn 3G for $50 just to get more contracts signed for 2 years before Verizon can announce anything.

These are my opinions and insight based on my passion and hobby as a tech enthusiast.

Yeah but like with anything else its all about the name many people will get the iphone just because its an iphone and have been waiting for years to get it. I just dont think it was smart for verizon to wait months to release a phone(thunderbolt) that was released months ago in the Evo but i guess they are going to turn like at&t and only care about the iphone

The iphone may but is it going to be 4g iphone of 3g? If 3g then that will seperate the 4g phones with the iphone.

Where did Verizon say the Thunderbolt wouldn't be released until March? I haven't heard this or seen it anywhere and I've been trying hard to find it or any idea of a release date for that matter.

During their press conference at CES they said all of the announced phones at CES would be available in the first half of 2011 and the first device wouldn't be available until March. So that means, all of the devices will be available from March - June.

There was a sneaky Panda tweet that implies 3/17(ish) for Thunderbolt and 4/21st(ish) for the Bionic.

Nice if that's the case I'll wait till 4/1 to buy the thunderbolt and when the Bionic comes out I'd have a week to check it out . I'm prety sold on the Thunderbolt. I'm a little disapointed they are releasing the iphone before any of the new android phones

I really love the Thunderbolt but if the bionic is going to be launched just weeks after it I will have to probably get over my love for it for the Bionic because dual core may not be the present but it is the future, I would swing the Thunderbolt if it were between now and mid February at the latest but after that amount of time I will be over it because although I love the build quality and the UI skin over motos the only reason I would skip out on the dual cores right around the corner is if it was released months before the Bionic and by that point it will be within a month or so from launch with a huge battery, the Droid branding, and no drawbacks besides blur but I don't mind the new version of it all that much.

If it's true that the Thunderbolt won't be released til March at the earliest, then whoever is running their advertising department should look for new work. I just looked through the new Entertainment Weekly and there lies a full page add for HTC's 4G phones on all the networks. Someone unfamiliar to HTC or Android says, "wow, looks great, I want". Calls Verizon and hears "What's the Thunderbolt?" or "Know idea when it will be released." or even worse "Call us back in 8 weeks."

You advertise if you're ready or very very close. This is just bad business.

If any of us could answer the question as to why the best network doesn't offer the best phones first, we would probably have a better job. Verizon has been lagging since after they had the RAZR.
