Couple of Email Questions

I am new to the Android OS coming from the iPhone. I have a couple of email questions:

1. Is there a faster way to delete emails from the preview screen instead of holding and waiting for the delete menu to come up. I used to be able to just swipe and select delete.

2. Can you change the option for push email on Exchange or set a time to poll for new emails?
