I have a HCL ME X1 for which I want to create a custom AOSP ROM.

I downloaded the source code of Android 2.3.7 and built it without making any change. The build was successful and I got the out folder.

How can I transfer the compiled code to my device?
Should I be bothered about any device drivers?

I checked /system for the vendor directory in the currently installed ROM but it didn't have any.

You definitely need a vendor and device folder. You should have the proprietory files. Cm uses an .sh to extract those files either from the Rom on your phone or a Rom.zip
