I thought it may be extremely useful for people who are contemplating going over to a 3rd party ROM what the good and bad points are, comparisons to official ROM etc.

May also be useful to state which 3rd party kernel (if applicable) seems to work well with it.

Can you start off with which version of the ROM your using with which firmware it is based on, followed by your findings.

Other 3rd Party ROMS are commented on in the threads below (please start new threads for any other ROMS that you wish to comment on):
Villain
Lite'ning
Cognition S2 (thanks to steslatt)
SicOpaT
MoDaCo (thanks to Sydney99)

Many thanks to all that contribute

I must say, this one seems to be filtering up to the top of the bunch at the moment.

Any chance you can put up some plain english instructions on how to install this, assuming we are not even on a rooted phone yet? The instructions on its download page seem a little confusing to me, as it mentions downloading a kitchen app and a core base, and it not that clear in my mind.

Also if a full wipe is needed, can instructions on how to do this be put up too. Its better to have all the information in a single point of reference. Less chance to mess things up!!!

Thank you all.

I'm just a little confused sorry.
So are you referring to the kitchen app as a ROM too? (ie. not the "firmware" rom)
(I'm confusing this with the fact that you have to download the ROM in point 2)

I have to say, I'm still unrooted, but this thread is giving me a huge temptation to do so and install this ROM!

:)

1) and 2) are different ways of installing. You do one or the other, not both.

The Kitchen is just an app. In the kitchen app it has the option to download and install the actual rom.

have just downloaded the (paid for) app to take a look (not yet downloaded rom) - it indeed looks awesome - has menus to download boot animations, modems, themes, stock/samsung apps that have been removed, dialers, kernels, and custom modifications.

looks an amazing way to easily pick and mix your rom/kernels/modifications etc. wow. am gonna install the rom now.....

i thought originally you needed this to get latest version of rom, but don't think that's actually the case.

it's certainly looks better and more user friendly

it also gives the dev some cash (a very modest amount) for his hard work - hopefully if enough do it it'll encourage him to keep up his efforts!

notification bar gone since installing. how do i get it back??

ive just bought revolution too from market and ive lost my notification bar too. and the market widget wont work anymore now aswell. BUT ive just been playing around with revolution and if you change the themes it will come back on and on other themes they will dissapear

This probably needs mentioning on the XDA thread. Cant say I've had the same problem, I downloaded the rom separately and flashed in CWM.

on the theme BLACKandroid v2.5 the notification bar was gone and market app wouldnt open saying unexpected problem and making me either force close it or send a report

and when i wa trying a few other things i went into titanium pro key app and clicked check for update it was saying there was an unexpected problem and making me force close it again, the same with that chainfire 3d

but ive changed the theme to GINGERLITE HORIZ BATT and everything was back to normal and working fine
