Root custom recovery

I have a 2.2 LG optimous. When I try to get into recovery mode by holding home power and volume down button only thing that happens is I see a box with a arrow and a android icon. It just puts my phone to like out of box. Do I not have custom recovery or might have lost it when I first updated then went back to 2.2 back in March. I haven't used this phone much but would like to get the rom reppards has posted. The phone is rooted under z4root. Can I get the custom recovery back. Help would be appreciated.

You'll have to reinstall Custom Recovery. There's several threads and tutorials on it and installing a ROM in the subforum
