Cut + Paste on Droid X?

I'm new to Droid X and smart phones in general. Biggest hope is to be able to cut and paste on my phone, mostly g-mail messages. (Would be great to know how to cut + paste text messages too.) Is this possible for a novice like me?

That was a helpful link, thanks. Maybe I'm doing something wrong: from the instructions provided by Verizon, it looks like I can only copy and paste the subject line of an e-mail, rather than the text in the body of the e-mail. I really need to be able to copy the text in body of the e-mail. Any suggestions for doing that?

I'd have thought that you should be able to long press on that area of text. It seems to work OK when I do that to the main text box on my Droid X. I long press and it gives me a menu with numerous options to choose such as "Select all", "Select text", "Cut all", "Copy all", etc.

Had my teenage son try it too and it didn't work for him either so.... I think my next stop is the Verizon store. Much thanks for your help!
