Cyanogen Mod 6 is currently being worked on by the Icarus developer isaac from the myascend.org forums. This shows his patience in our community and I greatly appreciate his persistence and for staying with us and continue helping us to get the most from our Ascends. Thanks isaac. As soon as the Cyanogen Mod 6 is completed for the Ascend, it will be posted here along with instructions from isaac.

Thanks to everyone and their continuing strive towards Ascendom, We've got some awesome stuff! Isaac is very generous to be giving us all these wonderful things. I'm glad there are people out there who have such great skill.
Thanks everyone who is working hard to modify this phone to it's best capability!

I know its probably to early to ask this but what features will this Rom have that Icarus doesn't?

No idea yet, as he hasn't specified.

FYI, Isaac no longer uses an Ascend phone, so the fact that he's still working on code for it is even more selfless.

CM6 is based on android 2.2.1 compared to 2.1, for a start :) So that's worth it for the speed boost alone, IMO.

Plus, you get the cyanogen mod settings which allow a good amount of customisation & tweaks.

They're picky about where things go. This is a post regarding mods that require root access (so i'm assuming) so it was moved to the root forum.

Correct. In order to keep things organised, discussions about custom ROMs, or any other activity that requires root access should be posted here in the All Things Root sub-section :)

At least not that I'm aware of. I've researched it everywhere, It says it's not compatible. I could be wrong but, That's just what I've read.

Set up as Icarus? Like will it have the dalvick cache on the SD card (I think its called apps2sd maybe)? Do you know what color theme yet? I just got Icarus 1.1 and I'm already all curious about new stuff. I just worry about any custom roms based off 2.2 as we've not had any official 2.2 for the Ascend yet. So wouldn't any rom be based off a different phone build? Or are they using the Chinese kernel of the M8600 that got the 2.2 already (They did get the 2.2 right)? This one would be fully functional like Icarus right (MMS, Data, Etc)? Sorry if I'm being all nosy and stuff. I'm super curious about this type of thing now. I just think everyone who does this type of work is awesome. Someday when I get myself a new phone, I want to use this Ascend as a starting point for learning how to dev roms myself. XD

Yeah, it will be setup/flashed the same way as Icarus. Once you have a custom recovery image on your phone, it all becomes pretty easy. A 2.2 rom would support froyo's native apps2sd, which allows the moving of apps to the sdcard if the dev allows it. On top of that, you can tweak it in CM settings to allow you to move any app to the sdcard like that. And on top of that , you will have the app2sd+ that you have with icarus.

CM6 is built from source, not by porting from another phone. The bits that are the issue are hardware drivers + the kernel, which are obviously specfic to your device. Now, it's certainly better for everyone if you can get hold of a 2.2 kernel, but it's not the end of the world. My phone only ever recieved 2.1 officially, yet I've just updated to 2.3.3 :p It may be a bumpy ride, but devs seem to get it running in the end. Like the G1, the first android phone AFAIK, is still getting new versions of android.

It would be fully functional yes.

Thank you so much! That's awesome that you've got that on your phone. That brings me to one question though, You say you've got 2.3.3 right? How many different models are in each OS? Like my Optimus M has 2.2 but there is a version 2.2.1. I'm wondering what these different versions include? Are they just simple upgrades or completely different?

P.S Are you involved in any type of dev'ing yourself? Sorry, Me being curious again. XD

They're just minor bug fixes and the odd improvement, nothing major. Froyo got one but I believe Gingerbread has had 2.3.1/2/3.

Nope, I don't know the first thing about developing. :p

Well perhaps when I get my hands into it you can be laughing at me from the sidelines. By the way, IS it true that the new Android OS is going to be called "Ice Cream Sandwich"? If so..I want it already. :p

Actually, I heard we'll have 2.4 first, but under the name Gingerbread. I posted that in the lounge somewhere, I'll try to find my link again.

I certainly heard it rumoured that it might be ice cream sandwich, but I'm not sure what the final official word on that was.

I admire that. I call myself a computer nerd mostly just because my wife calls me that. I'm always tinkering with Windows and can fix just about any issues I come across (even if that sometimes includes having to just reinstall everything). Swapping hardware and whatnot has never been a problem either. But as far as Linux is concerned, I installed it on one of my computers and couldn't even figure out how to install applications, much less start trying to write my own versions of it. (Am I correct that Android is based on Linux? I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere.) Luckily, the Android OS's UI seems much more user friendly.

Yup, that's correct. I believe android kernels are originally based on the linux kernel, for example.

There will be a couple of ways to install. One like Icarus, and its possible that it can be done at the push of a button using ROM manager

Yes Android is based on Linux. I downloaded the Ascend kernel from Huawei (and copied it onto one of my Linux machines) and there is actually some documents in it about the history of Android and of Linux. I'm not dev I just use Linux at work and have some knowledge of it and wanted to take a look at it just out of curiosity.
